De Vereniging Tropische Bossen (VTB) is in december 1999 opgericht voor het bevorderen van de uitwisseling van kennis en ervaringen over het duurzaam gebruik en beheer van tropische bossen. Hiertoe organiseert de vereniging studiedagen, netwerk- en thema activiteiten, en carrière oriëntatie avonden (Tropical Forest Career Night). De VTB faciliteert ook de verspreiding van informatie en vacatures gerelateerd aan tropische bossen, door middel van een mailinglijst, een nieuwsbrief en deze website. Lees verder
Expertise
De achterban van de VTB bestaat uit ruim vierhonderd studenten en professionals afkomstig uit verschillende disciplines en werkzaam in wetenschap, beleid, ngo’s, en de commerciële sector. Als VTB hopen we via onze activiteiten de kruisbestuiving tussen deze verschillende werkvelden en disciplines te bevorderen.
Activiteiten
De VTB organiseert seminars, excursies en studiedagen over actuele thema’s die relateren aan tropische bossen. Jaarlijks houden we voor studenten een carrière oriëntatie evenement: de Tropical Forest Career Night. Deze evenementen kun je hier op de website vinden en als je geinteresseerd bent kun je je gelijk inschrijven.
Word ook lid!
Leden hebben toegang tot een uitgebreid netwerk van professionals en studenten via de mailinglijst, de nieuwsbrief en activiteiten zoals studiedagen en seminars. Lidmaatschap kost €30 per jaar (€25 bij automatische incasso). Voor studenten is het eerste jaar gratis, daarna betalen zij €17,50 (€15 bij automatische incasso).

The EU Deforestation Regulation - diving into the implications, challenges and risks
Join us on December 6th from 13:00 to 19:00 for an indepth afternoon on the subject of the EU Deforestation Regulation. We will discuss what the law entails, whether this is seen as a solution against deforestation, and what is considered to points of attention for the implementation, with speakers from government, science, businesses and NGO’s.
The audience is invited to have an active role. The presentations will be combined with extensive room for questions and discussion. Following the presentations, there will be drinks and meal-replacing snacks so one will have room to elaborate on the subject matter in a more informal setting.

Verslagen van VTB bijeenkomsten

VTB-founder Herman Savenije passed away
Dear members of the Tropical Forest Assocation,
We’ve received very sad news. One of the founders of the Vereniging
Tropische Bossen (the Tropical Forest Association) has passed away last
week: Herman Savenije. Please read the full obituary on the website of

From the start Herman has played an important role at the VTB. Herman
was already a member of Stichting BOS, the forerunner of the VTB. He was
one of the people in this foundation who investigated in which way the
foundation BOS could continue. This resulted in the founding of the VTB
in 1999. In 2015 Herman became the first Honourable Member of the VTB.
His energy, ideas, network has stood for a great many activities amongst
which the notorious Are We On The Right Track-series. This series really
stood for exactly the combination of knowledge and network the VTB has
aimed for. His legacy is the continuation of this combination in the
future activities of the VTB.
We want to express our condolences to his family and friends and wish
them strenghth in this period and process.
